 International Competition of Performers on Musical Instruments “Con Anima”

Nominations: violin, cello, piano, chamber ensembles (mixed), piano duets.

The application form will be active from November 10, 2017.

Regulations of the competition

  1. General Terms and Conditions

The creative association “Riviera-Art” with the support of the Belarusian Union of Musicians invites all wishing young musicians to participate in the international musical distance competition “Con Anima”, which is conducted on video recordings.

The competition “Con Anima” for many opens up new creative horizons, gives an incentive to create, perform, surprise, achieve results.

Thanks to the worldwide network “Internet”, which has become an integral part of modern life, the “Riviera-Art” and the “Con Anima” competition opens new opportunities and prospects for young musicians.

Students of primary and secondary educational institutions (music school, art school, school with a musical bias, lyceum, college, school) can take part in the competition both from the Republic of Belarus and from other countries, aged from 6 to 17 years.

  1. The purpose and objectives of the competition
  • Development and strengthening of links between all stages of education in the field of culture and art;
  • Identification of young talented musicians for their further support and development;
  • Creation of a favorable creative and competitive atmosphere for young musicians, in order to stimulate their professional growth in performing musical instruments;
  • Improvement of professional and performing skills of teachers and accompanists;
  • Popularization of the performing classical school;
  • Increase the performance level of young musicians;
  • Preparation for concert performance;
  • Participation in such a competition is a great opportunity to grow and develop professionally, both to the pupil and the teacher, regardless of geopolitical and financial situation.
  1. Nominations of the competition
  • “Violin” (solo or with an accompanist)
  • “Cello” (solo or with an accompanist)
  • “Piano” (solo)
  • “Piano duo” (duo – in 4 hands, or 2 grand pianos)
  • “Chamber Ensemble” (instrumental – duets, trios, quartets, quintets with the participation of strings, winds, pianoforte (1 person), in any combination)

In the categories “Violin”, “Cello”, there are three age categories:

  • “A” – do not participate;
  • “B” – from 9 to 11 years inclusive;
  • “C” –  from 12 to 14 inclusive;
  • “D” – from15 to 17 inclusive;

“Piano”:

  • “A” – from 6 to 8 years inclusive;
  • “B” – from 9 to 11 years inclusive;
  • “C” –  from 12 to 14 inclusive;
  • “D” – from15 to 17 inclusive;

The age category is determined by the age of the participant at the time of the competition and is documented.

“Piano Duo”:

Age categories:

  • “A” is the age of the oldest member of the ensemble for 11 years.
  • “B” – the age of the oldest member of the ensemble is 14 years old.
  • “C” – the age of the oldest member of the ensemble is 17 years old.

“Chamber Ensemble”:

Age categories:

  • “A” is the age of the oldest member of the ensemble for 11 years.
  • “B” – the age of the oldest member of the ensemble is 14 years old.
  • “C” is the age of the most senior member of the ensemble for 17 years.
  1. Organization and timing of the competition
  • The participants of the competition independently choose the nomination, in which the materials are presented.
  • The Organizing Committee of the competition approves the composition of the jury, the chairman, the system of expert evaluations, the results of the competition.
  • Competition audition is conducted from Febrary 1 to 15, 2018 in two stages.

Stage 1 – from Febrary 1  to 10, 2018, Febrary 11 – publication of the results of the first stage.

It is conducted by voting of guests, observers of the competition on the Riviera-Art.by website. In the “Competition” section on nominations and groups will be posted audio recordings. Records will be numbered without information about the performer in order to rule out the possibility of dishonest voting. Repeated voting from one device’s ip adress will be blocked. The results of online voting will be taken into account by the jury members when summarizing the results of the competition.

Stage 2 – from 11 to 15 Febrary, 2018

Competitive audition by the jury members; announcement of the competition results – within 7 calendar days after the end of the second stage (until Febrary22).

  1. Application for participation in the competition

The list of necessary actions required for participation in the competition:

  • Fill in the online application form. (Fills in, sends an application, pays an organizational fee – an adult legal representative of the contestant (s) – a person who is the parent of a minor, an adoptive parent, guardian, trustee, or other person representing his legal interests (including the teacher) with the legislation of the Republic of Belarus, and assumes the obligations in accordance with the public offer Agreement).

Before completing the application, prepare the following documents, which are attached directly to the application form:

  1. Identity document and age of the sender (legal representative) of the application for the competition (scan-copy);
  2. Birth certificate of participant (s) or passport page with personal data (scan copy);
  3. A photograph of the participant (ensemble) in Jpeg format;
  4. Link for downloading a competitive video for listening (you can send a link to the record separately, but not later than January 25, 2018). Requirements for video recording and details of sending video material can be found in point # 7;
  5. Music material (sheet music) in electronic form (solo part, accompaniment, ensemble parts, score);

Applications for participation in the competition are accepted until January 25, 2018.

Application for participation. There are two options for applying:      Solo         Ensemble

  • Pay the registration fee. Within two days, after sending the application, you will receive a letter (by e-mail specified in the application) with information about the method of payment of the organizational fee, which will need to be paid within 5 working days after the sending of the application.(Visa, MasterCard)

Solo performance (violin, cello, piano) – 25 euro/30 $U.S.

Ensemble: Duo, Trio – 50 euro/60$ U.S.;  Quartet, Quintet – 75 euro/90$ U.S.;

With the participation of the competitors “Violin, Cello” in addition to the nomination “Ensemble” – the admission fee is paid separately, but with a 20% discount.

 The following categories of participants with a 20% discount:

  • Children from large families;
  • The winners of the Grand Prix, Laureates of 1 award of the previous competitions – “Con – Anima”.

 The following categories of participants are free of charge:

  • Children – left without parental care (orphans);
  • Children with disabilities (disabled 1, 2, 3 groups);

If the competitor(s) belong to one of the above categories, it is necessary together with the application for the competition to send a scan copy of the supporting document.

  1. Competitive listening program

Violin, Cello

Group “B” (9-11 years):Playing time is up to 10 minutes.  Two different works. The whole program is executed by heart;

Group “C” (12-14 years): Playing time up to 12 minutes. The whole program is executed by heart

  1. The composition of a large form (one-part concert, or one or two parts of the concerto, concertino, one-part sonatas, or 1-2 or 3-4 parts of the sonata, classical variations, suite (at least 3 parts), fantasy;
  2. Work of choice;

Group “D” (15-17 years): Playing time up to 15 minutes. The whole program is executed by heart

  1. The composition of a large form (one-part concert, or one or two parts of the concert, sonatas, or 1-2 or 3-4 parts of the sonata, fantasy, classical variations, suite (at least 3 parts), fantasy;
  2. Work of choice;

Piano:

Group “A” (6-8 years):  playing time up to 7 minutes, the whole program is executed by heart.

Participants perform two different works.

Group “B” (9-11 years): playing time up to 12 minutes, the whole program is executed by heart.

Participants perform two different works.

Group “C” (12-14 years): playing time up to 15 minutes, the whole program is executed by heart.

Participants perform two different works. One of them is obligatory in the Baroque period.

Group “D” (15-17 years): time of sounding up to 20 minutes, the whole program is executed by heart.

Participants perform two different works. One of them is obligatory in the Baroque period.

Piano Duo:

Group “A” – Participants perform two different works. One of them is obligatory in the Baroque period.

Group “B” – Participants perform two different works. One of them is obligatory in the Baroque period.

Group “C” – Participants perform two different works. One of them is obligatory in the Baroque period.

Chamber ensemble:

Category “A”: two different works, involving equivalent batches of instruments (execution of transpositions is allowed)

Category “B”:

  1. one composer’s composition of the 18-19th centuries (execution of transcriptions is allowed);
  2. one composer’s composition of 20-21 centuries (permissions are allowed);

Category “С”:

  1. one composer’s composition of the 18-19th centuries (execution of transcriptions is allowed);
  2. one composer’s composition of 20-21 centuries (permissions are allowed);

In the nomination “Chamber ensemble” all works can be performed according to the notes.

With the participation of the competitors “Violin, Cello” in addition to the nomination “Ensemble” – the admission fee is paid separately, but with a 20% discount.

  1. Requirements for video recording with a competitive program
  • The competition accepts a video recording in digital format;
  • The recording is performed on the stage;
  • The form of clothes is a concert. The recorded program in an arbitrary form of clothing will not be accepted for audition;
  • Participant (you can be a teacher, accompanist) must declare an executable program;
  • The camera should not be turned off between works, the competition works are performed in a row without turning off the camera, the video is sent by one file;
  • Installation (video, audio) recording is not allowed;
  • We accept video recordings made during examinations, concert performances. In this case, a video with a video clip or video on two files can be received.
  • If the above written requirements are not met, the participant will not be admitted to the competition and the fee will not be returned.
  • Video recording should be placed on one of the following resources (file sharing):

  • Be sure, before sending, check the efficiency of the download link.

All entries will be posted on our website and on our YouTube channel.

Participating in the competition, the competition participants and their representatives give their consent to any use of their video and audio material (publication on the site, on various media resources, use for advertising and commercial purposes).

  1. Summing up the results of the competition and awarding winners, Laureates.

Summing up the results of the competition, publication of the results on the Riviera-Art.by website will be within 7 calendar days after the end of the auditions until Febrary 22, 2018.

Rewarding is carried out according to the nominations in accordance with the specified age categories and provides for the award of the following places:

  • Diploma “Grand Prix” and Prize;
  • Diploma of “Laureate of 1 degree”  Prize;
  • Diploma of “Laureate of 2 degrees” and Prize;
  • Diploma of “Laureate of 3rd degree” and Prize;

There are special prizes from the sponsors of the competition and not indifferent people.

Rewarding will be conducted by the administration of the educational institution sending the competitor. Diplomas and prizes will be sent by mail to the address of the educational institution;

If the educational institution is located in Minsk, the awarding ceremony will be performed either by the administration of the institution or by the competition;

Perhaps the best artists of Belarus are invited to Minsk to participate in the concerts.

  1. Jury

To evaluate the performances of the competitors, a jury is formed for each nomination separately, which includes representatives of the teaching staff of higher and secondary professional music education, famous musicians, performers of international level. Also, the jury may include leading teachers of primary education.

The composition of the jury can be found on the website of the site on the instruments immediately before the start of the competition.

Criteria for assessing performances:

  • Degree of possession of the instrument and a complex of musical expressive means:
  • Articulation, intonation, strokes, nuances, phrasing, sound quality;
  • Musicality, artistry, scenic culture;
  • The correspondence of the competitive program to the age characteristics of the participant (s);
  • Ensemble game.

 The Jury has the right:

  • To award not all degrees of laureates and share them among participants;
  • To establish special diplomas and prizes;
  • To award diplomas to teachers “For Pedagogical Excellence”;
  • To award charters for the best performance of individual works;
  • To determine other types of rewards.
  • The decision of the jury is final and not subject to revision.

The coverage of the competition, additional information will be covered on the competition website – Riviera-Art.by

On the site Riviera-Art.by – everyone will be able to take part in evaluating the performances of the competition participants by listening to the published entries of the competitors and further voting.
